Belinda & Ralph Hardwick

Belinda and Ralph have been exploring, near and far, in their modified Land Rover Discovery (affectionately named Matilda) since 2009.

In that time they have driven to, or through, 26 countries and 3 continents.  They have driven Matilda to Africa and spent days exploring and wild camping in the Sahara Desert.  In 2012 they watched the Midnight Sun from their rooftent 700 miles inside the Arctic Circle and recently completed a circumnavigation of the Aegean Sea, taking Matilda over the Bosphorus into Asia, camping in wooded mountain clearings sometimes at heights taller than the peak of Ben Nevis.

In the summer of 2014 they undertook their first exploration of Iceland.  Having sent several days exploring the Faroe Islands they continued north to spend several days driving the gravel tracks and unmade mountain roads of the interior of this stunning country.  Each turn of the road revealed a new ‘wow’ and led to, what Ralph refers to as, an ‘awesome overload’.  They knew instinctively that they would return. Early in 2016 they achieved their desire and spent several days photographing the Aurora Borealis. Later, that same year, Ralph returned to specifically ‘recce’ a route for the photo tours they plan to offer.

Now they have combined their love of 4×4 Overlanding, their love of Iceland and their desire to share what they have experienced within their commercial photography business to offer special Photo adventure trips.

With a new, more comfortable vehicle, specifically modified with remote photography tours in mind, they hope to offer something special to their customers.

Following 20+ years working in the NHS, Belinda recently retired as a Nurse Manager in charge of the Orthopaedic Outpatient Department of a District University Hospital.

Also having experience working with bereaved relatives and being part of a Youth Offending Team, she has always focussed on the care of others.

She has tried ‘package holidays’ but much prefers to be away from it all and experience the countryside rather than the city.

When her head isn’t buried in her Kindle she focusses much of her attention on our three daughters and six grandchildren.

Belinda loves cooking and is well versed with preparing food ‘in the field’.  She is very aware of the need to consider food intolerances and will prepare breakfasts, lunches and evening meals using local fresh produce.

Ralph is the director of and principal photographer for CaptureLight and has been taking photographs for over 35 years.  He started his working life a Marine Engineer officer, in the Merchant Navy, travelling extensively; into jungles in Borneo, on horseback in the Andes, trail riding in the Falklands, through poverty ridden streets in Bangladesh and walking the neon lit streets of Hong Kong, Sydney, Chicago, Santiago and many other cities across the globe.

With nearly 30 years experience in the offshore oil & gas, petrochemical and offshore wind industries. He has recently re-focussed his business and now provides an industrial, commercial and advertising photography service to business clients.

With his love of 4×4 vehicles and landscape photography, the option to combine this with the photography business seemed too obvious to ignore.

Ralph is an Advanced driver and motorcyclist, open canoe and kayak Instructor, Advanced Open Water Diver and qualified yacht skipper.  He will act as the principle driver and guide throughout the tour.  With his keen eye he will ensure that you will never miss a spectacular view.
