Your Transport

So, why would you be interested in the vehicle that you’re going to travel in.  Firstly, it is going to be your home, source of comfort and your accommodation for the 7 days.  Secondly it will be the means to get you to some of the most spectacular locations on the planet.  It’s important that it’s the right choice and ready for what’s expected.

There are many, many outstanding photographic locations, in Iceland, that can be reached by coach or 2 wheel drive car.  Of course, if they’re easy to get to then lots of other people will get there as well!

To truly see Iceland you need to get away from the crowds.  To do that you need a 4 wheel drive.  However not every 4wd will do.  To reach some of the locations we intend to visit you need a vehicle which is equipped for deep water crossing and is able to withstand the rough terrain of the highland ‘F’ roads and tracks.

A 4wd vehicle can be hired that will allow you to access some of those routes.  However many are not insured to drive on certain roads (F249 to Þórsmörk – day 5, being one) and none of them are insured for water crossings.

Those that are allowed to drive the highland F roads will carry a premium price.  A basic 4X4 could start at £1200 for a weeks hire.

The vehicle we will use is our own 2015 UK spec Ford Ranger Double Cab Wildtrak.   It will be specifically modified to cope with the terrain, provide maximum reliability and comfort and cater for the particular needs of photographers.
